The Liberal Democrats have won four Council seats locally, three in Strechford and Yardley North ward and one in Washwood Heath ward. The Conservatives did not win any at all showing that only the Liberal Democrats can beat Labour in Hodge Hill constituency.
In Stechford and Yardley North ward all three Liberal Democrat candidates were elected. The Councillors are Neil Eustace, Barbara Jackson and Carol Jones. The Liberal Democrat candidates polled 9,317 votes well over half the 16,662 votes cast.
In Washwood Heath ward Tariq Khan was re-elected to the Council receiving 4,226 votes and topping the poll, Mohammed Masoom was almost elected he missed out by a mere 125 votes. The Liberal Democrat candidates polled 10,772 overall, more than 500 votes more than the Labour Party.
In Hodge Hill Liberal Democrat candidate Gwyneth Neilly came very close to winning just 226 behind. The Liberal Democrat candidates polled 4,639 votes. Hodge Hill ward may be subject to an electoral petition due to some irregularities and the election may have to be re-run.
In Bordesley Green ward whilst not winning the Liberal Democrat candidates polled 4,432 votes. Bordesley Green Ward has been the centre of allegations of postal vote fraud and the election there may have to be re-run depending on the success of an electoral petition.
In Shard End ward again whilst not winning the Liberal Democrat candidates polled 2,174 votes. Shard End as well as being one of the smallest wards in the the constituency also had the lowest turnout at just 30%
