Hodge Hill deserted by Davis

June 22, 2004 2:25 PM

Terry Davis, sitting Labour MP for Hodge Hill, has been elected as Secretary General for the Council of Europe. The election of Mr. Davis means that he will have to stand down as MP for Hodge Hill constituency. Iain Bowen Chair of Birmingham Liberal Democrats said "Mr. Davis has deserted the people of Hodge Hill by standing and becoming Secretary General of the Council of Europe. This is not the first time Mr. Davis has stood for this position showing that he would rather have an extremely well paid job in Europe than represent the people of Hodge Hill in Parliament."

The Liberal Democrats stand a very good chance of winning any by-election in Hodge Hill, they were second in the votes at the Local Elections just two weeks ago. The seat is also better for the Liberal Democrats than Brent East which the Liberal Democrats won from Labour last Autumn.
