Nicola Davies and Simon Hughes talking to a local resident
Nicola Davies today joined Simon Hughes MP, in attacking Labour's record on further and higher education in Hodge Hill constituency. Nicola Davies said "Just one in nine young people in Hodge Hill constituency are going onto higher education. This suggests both a failure to provide the highest quality education up to age eighteen and a failure to make higher education an aspiration for local teenagers. The lack of local further education courses also points to Labour having given up on the young people of this area".
Simon Hughes MP said: "We know that Labour's tuition fees and top-up fees will be part of the problem. We know that the fear of debt puts off students from less wealthy backgrounds. Every vote for Nicola Davies and the Liberal Democrats is a vote to scrap fees and re-introduce grants."
