Labour failings on post office closures, local neglect and the Iraq War have fundamentally let down the people of Hodge Hill, Charles Kennedy MP said today on his fifth visit to the area. This was Charles Kennedy's fifth visit to Birmingham Hodge Hill, this contrasts with Tony Blair who has yet to make a visit to the constituency. During his visit, Charles Kennedy MP joined with Nicola Davies, Liberal Democrat candidate, to address a meeting of local Asian community leaders as the race for the Hodge Hill By-Election becomes neck and neck.
Charles Kennedy MP said "Labour have fundamentally failed the people of Hodge Hill by closing local post offices, not putting enough bobbies on the beat and by waging war in Iraq. I've seen the neglect myself during previous visits to the area. The graffiti and vandalism are a sad reflection of years of Labour control."
Nicola Davies said "Labour's poor record and negative tactics in this campaign speak volumes. Labour is running scared because they know it's neck and neck. The people of Hodge Hill have a right to feel safe in their local community. This means more police on the beat and a more secure environment. Labour has failed to deliver this, despite years in power. The message on the doorstep is clear. More and more people agree that voting for the Liberal Democrats is the best way of delivering change."
