Liberal Democrats have cancelled Labour's rubbish wheelie bin idea
The Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives have scrapped Labour's rubbish plans to only collect refuse every two weeks. Labour had proposed that every household in Birmingham would no longer have weekly collections but one collection every two weeks using wheelie bins.
Whilst wheelie bins would work in some areas they would not be suitable for all properties and particularly for elderly and disabled people. The wheelie bin scheme could also prove to be very costly.
The Council will now have a review of its waste disposal and recycling policy. The Liberal Democrat/Conservative coalition remains committed to improving the City's record on recycling.
