The Electoral Commission yesterday said that all-postal voting should not be used in UK elections. The June Local and European Elections saw all-postal voting trailed in four regions. The Electoral Commission has said the trials involving 14m people were hit by problems including delays in delivering voting papers and has recommend against any more all-postal voting.
The Liberal Democrats welcome the Commission's finding that people should be guaranteed the right to vote in conditions of privacy at a polling station. The Government must now heed the advice of the independent Commission on such a significant issue, and work with other parties to prevent abuse which can occur with postal voting in general.
