Birmingham City Council's Electoral Matters Scrutiny Committee has now detailed its plans for an eight-month investigation into allegations of election fraud after meeting on Friday. Scrutiny Committee Chair, Councillor John Alden said "Election abuse may be the most serious challenge to democracy since the Nazi hordes gathered on the other side of the Channel"
The electoral matters scrutiny committee was set up to look into the secrecy and security of local ballots. Councillor John Alden has said the council had to take the allegations seriously and make sure future elections were fair and free from fraud.
In addition to the Scrutiny Committee there are two electoral petitions lodged at the High Court, which will be reviewed in the near future and could lead to re-runs of the Local Election voting in two wards.
