A former Labour City Councillor and Cabinet member has admitted Labour faces a membership crisis in Birmingham. Andrew Coulson who lost his seat to the Liberal Democrats in June has told Labour Party conference that after losing his seat he discovered membership numbers were falling dramatically and Labour were facing a real crisis in the number of members.
He reminded the meeting at Conference that Labour lost control of Birmingham and was backed up by Clare Short MP who said "We lost power in Birmingham. This is the second biggest city in the country." Ms. Short went on to say the only solution was for Tony Blair to resign, she said. "I think if we could persuade Tony to move on, we could change some things and that would really help us."
