Birmingham Yardley MP Estelle Morris last night expressed doubts that Blair's 'choice' agenda could actually improve schools. Ms. Morris told a meeting of Progress - a thinktank - that it could take years for a failing school to close. In education, she said, the cycle of improvement was just too slow to benefit today's pupils.
At the same meeting Ms. Morris also admitted Labour had "wasted a couple of years" worrying about how to expand childcare provision. "Some of our targets were not quite right, particularly in health."
