Bus wardens will soon be introduced to buses in Birmingham thanks to the Liberal Democrats
At today's meeting of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority the Liberal Democrats put forward a motion calling for bus wardens on bus services in Birmingham. Liberal Democrat Councillor Paul Tilsley said "I am delighted that that the Passenger Transport Authority agreed with our proposal to introduce bus wardens, this will help make travelling on the buses safer and a more enjoyable experience for all. The bus wardens were one of the Liberal Democrat local government manifesto pledges, another Liberal Democrat promise that has been delivered."
The bus wardens will be, in the first instance, paid for from the revenue created from advertising in the showcase bus shelters. It is anticipated that there will be thirty wardens to start and the scheme expanded if successful. The wardens will be responsible for combating crime and anti-social behaviour on the buses and also to look at where best to locate bus shelters in the future.
