Clare Short MP, Labour Birmingham Ladywood, has accused Tony Blair of deliberately misleading parliament and the public into war by lying about Saddam Hussein's Weapons of Mass Destruction. The accusation is made in the former International Development Secretary book - Honourable Deception.
In the book Clare Short rejects the Butler inquiry findings and states that Blair deliberately misled the country. Ms. Short has said said "I am afraid it is clear that the Prime Minister did knowingly mis-lead. The question we must all address is whether it is acceptable for the Prime Minister to deceive us in the making of war and the taking and sacrificing of human life because he personally believed it was the right thing to do."
Ms. Short also accuses Blair of having agreed a "pre-ordained timetable" with Mr Bush, she claims that Cabinet Secretary told her after the war that the decision had been taken at least seven months earlier by saying 'that Blair had given his commitment to be totally with the US in August (2002) or before'. She further backs this up by saying that Gordon Brown told her in September 2002 'that Number 10 had already asked Geoff Hoon to make 20,000 troops available'.
