New figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrats reveal the disparity of GP services across the country. Figures released by the Department of Health reveal that while on average English Primary Care Trusts (PCT) have 52 GPs per 100,000 patients, some areas have just 43. While residents of Durham Dales PCT enjoy the luxury of 67 GPs per 100,000 patients the unfortunate people of Thurrock and of Shepway have just 43.
Paul Burstow Shadow Health Secretary has called for more doctors and said "The Government should stop it's meddling and micromanagement and let GPs get on with the job of delivering quality health care. What patients want are quality health services, closer to home - not a false debate about the choice of a hospital miles away."
