Nicola Davies and Simon Hughes discuss policing in Shard End
The Government have issued a white paper announcing an overhaul of policing methods. The white paper aimed at making the police service more responsive and accountable to local communities. These measures are needed as a Mori poll this summer suggested policing was the one major public service where people were less satisfied the more contact they had with it.
Mark Oaten MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary said "The Government are right to increase the links between local people and the police. But these measures will only work if they're matched with a cut in the amount of paper work - and investment in modern equipment to keep the police out on the streets."
