Labour tried to gag MP saying he should support the Unions not his constituents

December 2, 2004 11:08 AM

Defence Minister Adam Ingram has criticised Sion Simon, Labour MP for Erdington, for standing up for his constituents and van makers LDV instead of a trade union which helps fund the Labour party.

Defence Minister Adam Ingram said the MP should stick to defending the position of Amicus - the trade union which sponsors him. The union supported the Government's policy and Mr Simon should do the same.

Nicola Davies said "The Liberal Democrats believe that MPs are elected to represent their constituents not their Trade Union backers, it is clear that the Labour Party believe their backers are more important!"
