The Audit Commission has named Birmingham as one of the worst performing councils in Britain by grading it as weak. The Commission has blamed twenty years of Labour control for the problems rather than the Liberal Democrat-Conservative coalition which it says has brought "fresh energy" to the Council since it took over in June.
Birmingham City Council is classified as weak, a category shared by only 16 of the country's 150 local authorities. The Audit Commission found the services have been allowed to deteriorate over a period - as a result they now rank amongst the poorer performers in the country.
Nicola Davies said "This is yet another example of Labour's neglect over the last twenty years. The Liberal Democrats are working to turn the Council around, but after twenty years this things take time."
