School truancy is more than double the national average in Hodge Hill. This means that in the academic year 2002-3 47 per cent of the pupils at the five secondary schools in Hodge Hill bunked off at least one lesson. The figures were revealed in the answer to a parliamentary question.
Nicola Davies said "Tony Blair pledged to put education at the top of the agenda. The problem of truancy is getting worse under Labour. This shocking evidence proves the extent of Labour failure in secondary education in Hodge Hill. Levels of truancy across England at both primary and secondary level have increased by 30 per cent since 1997. I cannot believe that this has been a priority for Labour they are failing parents, pupils and teachers."
