The search for Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq has been ended, after the search found none! The existence of Weapons of Mass Destruction was the reason given for going to war with Iraq. Sir Menzies Campbell, Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary, who opposed the war said "this is the final nail in the coffin of the case for military action against Iraq. There was no 'real and present danger' nor was the threat 'serious and current'. Britain went to war on a flawed prospectus. It is time for the Government to acknowledge the truth."
Meanwhile the Attorney General confirmed yesterday that the Government would not release the legal advice on the war on Iraq, despite a string of demands to see the papers under the Freedom of Information Act. Sir Menzies Campbell said "The legal advice lies right at the very heart of the Government's case for military action against Iraq. we have no doubt that the public interest lies in publication of the whole of the advice, but I am equally sure that the Government will not want to run the risk of political embarrassment"
