Liberal Democrats launch their manifesto for the family

The Liberal Democrats today launched their manifesto for the families. The manifesto has policies offering new working mothers a Maternity Income Guarantee, equivalent to the minimum wage of £170 per week for the first 6 months after the birth of their first child; the reduction of class sizes for 5-7 year olds and creation of 3500 Children's Centres to help with childcare; the reform of the tax credit system, making housing more affordable and the introduction of a rights-based Children's Commissioner to protect children's rights.

Annette Brooke, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for children said "This mini-manifesto for families sets out a range of policies to enable families to give our children the best start in life and to make sure that our children's welfare and their future development is at the heart of our agenda. The three main policies we propose to support children and families are a Maternity Income Guarantee, more children's centres and smaller class sizes. The Liberal Democrats are leading the way putting children first."
