Liberal Democrats launch their manifesto for people with disabilities

The Liberal Democrats today launch their manifesto for people with disabilities, promising a £200 winter fuel payment for severely disabled people and free off-peak local bus travel for all people with disabilities. Other key policies include a Single Equality Act to put disability legislation on a par with race and sex discrimination and accessible public services to give people more control over their healthcare and education. The manifesto also contains other key measures to promote independent living, including measures to help people with disabilities find stable long term employment and help with additional living costs.

Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat Disability Spokesperson said "The Liberal Democrats want to see a society where we all share equality of opportunity, unimpeded by discrimination. As well as fighting discrimination, it is essential to promote independent living for people with disabilities. This manifesto sets out measures designed to break the cycle of exclusion that many disabled people face. The Liberal Democrats are determined that the voices of disabled people become impossible for society to ignore."
