The Liberal Democrats have welcomed the Home Secretary publishing the grounds on which foreigners considered to be promoting terrorism can be deported or excluded from the UK. Mark Oaten, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesperson said "It is good that the Home Secretary has seen sense on the deportation rules. We broadly welcome the use of powers to deport people, as long as the individuals involved have a right to appeal and the case for deportation is reasonable."
Charles Clarke issued the list of "unacceptable behaviour" by those said to indirectly threaten public order, national security, or the rule of law, which includes provoking and glorifying terrorism. Mr. Oaten further said "It would have been unacceptable to deport people on the basis of a lack of general commitment to UK values or to remove the right of appeal, both ideas that were suggested by the Prime Minister."
