Birmingham Liberal Democrats have welcomed this year's Eid Mela, which takes place on Sunday 16 July. For the first time in its six year history it will be taking place at Millennium Point. Liberal Democrats have again led the organisation of the event with Washwood Heath Councillor Tariq Khan as Chair of the Birmingham Eid Mela steering committee and Perry Barr Councillor Ray Hassall is the Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture.

Councillor Tariq Khan said "The event, which has been organised by Birmingham's Muslim communities, is a celebration of South Asian culture. We invite all of Birmingham to come together and enjoy the atmosphere at this unique festival." The free event starts at 12noon and finishes at 9pm. Visitors to the event can expect to visit the crafts bazaar and funfair, sample Asian cuisine at the food stalls and enjoy live on stage internationals artists and up and coming British Asian musicians.
