Liberal Democrats to give the public a say on Lords Reform

March 19, 2007 10:29 AM

Liberal Democrat Peers are encouraging members of the public to have their say on reform of the House of Lords. The Peers, including Lib Dem Lords Leader Tom McNally, and Joan Walmsley, asked the public to write down their views and place them in a ballot box outside Parliament during today's debate on reform of the Upper Chamber. They are also launching their own consultation website, which will be found at www.lordsreformvote.org

Lord McNally said "The future makeup of the House of Lords is an incredibly important issue. It is vital that the public get to air their views on this matter. I hope that as many people as possible visit our new website to give their comments. Last week's House of Commons vote was an historic moment, which must be built on. We have been waiting nearly a hundred years to create a modern Second Chamber. I do not want to wait another century for this reform to be completed."
