Ming Campbell with policeman
Liberal Democrat Leader Sir Ming Campbell will this afternoon make a speech at a Mosque in Birmingham attacking the Police's stop-and-search powers. He will say they are overused and alienating ethnic minority communities.
Nearly 167,000 people have been stopped under anti-terrorism laws but only 40 have been convicted.
Sir Ming will say "It is intelligence-led policing, not indiscriminate stop and search, that will bring success in the fight against terrorism." He will also say "Indiscriminate stop and search is alienating minority groups who often feel unjustly targeted."
