Anti-Social Behaviour Helpline Extended

Lib Dems welcome the extension of the Council's anti-social behaviour helpline to a 24 hour service.

Councillor Ayoub Khan (Aston Ward), Lib Dem Cabinet Member for Local Services and Community Safety, has welcomed the introduction by the Council of a 24 hour anti-social behaviour helpline.

Ayoub Khan said: "Anti-social behaviour causes misery and can have devastating effects on individuals or whole communities. Extending the helpline service for Birmingham residents will ensure that people can report incidents at any time. The Council will continue to work with the police and partner agencies to tackle the problem head on."

From 1 June 2007, Birmingham residents will be able to report anti-social behaviour at any time of the day or night by telephoning 0121 303 1111. This could include problems such as gangs, noise nuisance, or any abusive or seriously offensive behaviour. The improved service will help the Council and its partners in their continuing work to make Birmingham safer.

Residents should still phone West Midlands Police direct (999 or 0845 113 5000) with any urgent calls as the Council's helpline is not an emergency call out number.

In the last 12 months Birmingham City Council successfully secured 56 ASBOs (Anti-Social Behaviour Orders) and 148 injunctions against the worst cases of anti-social behaviour, making a real difference to the lives of local residents in those cases.
