Lib Dems are calling for local passenger services on the the Camp Hill railway line.

Liberal Democrat councillors in Birmingham have welcomed the completion of a feasibility study on options for reopening the Camp Hill railway line in south Birmingham (between Bordesley and Kings Norton) for local passenger services. The study was commissioned by Birmingham City Council and the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority (Centro).

Councillor Martin Mullaney (Moseley & Kings Heath Ward) welcomed the study's conclusions:

"There has been a local campaign for the reinstatement of passenger services. We are pleased that the study has shown there is a commercial case."

"We call on the rail industry to work together with the City on the considerable work needed to bring this scheme to fruition."

A number of stopping patterns and station locations were investigated and a preference for a 20 minute service between Moor Street and Kings Norton stations (to interchange with Cross City rail and bus services) has been identified. New stations could be created on former sites in Moseley, Kings Heath and Hazelwell.

A new service is predicted to attract 1 million extra rail trips a year. Capital costs at current prices, including a new viaduct at Bordesley, would be approximately £40 million.
