Liberal Democrats in Birmingham have welcomed the launch of the Birmingham Cutting CO2 campaign.
Liberal Democrats in Birmingham have welcomed the launch of the Birmingham Cutting CO2 campaign to increase awareness in Birmingham of the effects of climate change and to encourage everyone around the city to use less energy, cutting their CO2 emissions.
"Every year, Birmingham produces 6.9million tonnes of CO2 (carbon dioxide)," said Councillor Paul Tilsley (Sheldon Ward). "We need to reduce this dramatically to prevent dangerous climate change. In recent weeks, we have seen the dramatic effects of extreme weather. If we do not act now this will become the norm."
"I urge everyone to spend a couple of minutes visiting the website www.birminghamcuttingco2.org to make your personal pledge to help Birmingham cut its CO2 emissions."
The Birmingham Cutting CO2 campaign was launched at the Business in the Community Climate Change Exhibition in the Bullring earlier today by the Birmingham Strategic Partnership and will be continuing over the next few months.
As part of the campaign, free energy saving kits (including an energy saving lightbulb and a save-a-flush device) will be available from outside the Selfridges store in the Bullring from the 16th to 29th July, 2007.
