Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg is leading the campaign against Post Office closures.
Speaking to the Birmingham Post earlier this week, party leader Nick Clegg emphasised that the Liberal Democrats had plans to save about 200 Post Offices in the West Midlands. The Labour Government has agreed to the closure of at least 2500 Post Offices across the UK.
The closure programme began last year but details of how it will affect the West Midlands will be announced in June.
Nick Clegg said that the Liberal Democrats were committed to saving Post Offices. He said: "We would split Royal Mail form the Post Office network. We would turn Royal Mail into an employee-owned company, in a similar way to John Lewis, and a minority of shares would be floated."
"That would raise about £2 billion which we would invest into the Post Office network, allowing sub-postmasters to expand their businesses. We have put this to the Government. However, the Government prefers to take the axe to Post Offices up and down the country, without any meaningful local consultation."
