Nick Clegg is bringing Liberal Democrat party conferences to Birmingham.

The International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham will host the Liberal Democrats' annual party conference in 2011, it has been announced. The two-year deal, which will also see the ICC host the Spring conference in 2010, is expected to give an £11m boost to Birmingham's economy.

Approximately 6,000 party members including MP's, MEP's, Lords and Councillors from across the UK will meet at the annual conference to debate the issues of the day and agree party policy.

Councillor Paul Tilsley, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council and Leader of the Liberal Democrat Council Group, said: "Nick has been to Birmingham and seen for himself what a fantastic city this is - I have been promoting the city to him and our excellent reputation for hosting world-class events."

"This decision by the Liberal Democrats is a massive endorsement for the city, cementing our position on the political conference circuit. Birmingham is an internationally important city and recognition on the world stage is continually growing."
