Liberal Democrats in Birmingham have welcomed the news that Birmingham City Council will only lend money to Warwickshire County Cricket Club for ground improvements at Edgbaston if certain conditions are met. This includes meaningful consultation with local residents on issues such as floodlighting, car parking and crowd management.
"We all want first class cricket to remain in Birmingham," said Councillor Jerry Evans. "But Warwickshire County Cricket Club should have genuinely consulted local residents before now."
"The proposal for floodlights, as well as the scale of the proposed development, will have a major impact on the lives of neighbouring residents. I and my fellow Lib Dem councillors will continue to stand up for residents and make sure that these issues are properly debated."
