In the first session of the new European Parliament, the West Midlands' Lib Dem MEP Liz Lynne was elected as First Vice-President of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee.
The Committee is responsible for a wide range of European legislation, from fighting discrimination in the workplace, to health and safety at work and social affairs issues.
Liz said: "In what are difficult economic times for so many people, it is even more vital we get legislation right at the European level. I will continue to work with businesses to cut unnecessary 'red tape' and ensure legislation is adopted only if the scientific and medical evidence proves both the need and that it can't be better done at Member State level."
