John Hemming has been re-elected as MP for Birmingham Yardley.
Liberal Democrat John Hemming has been re-elected as the MP for the Birmingham Yardley constituency. He was returned to Parliament with an increased majority of 3,002.
Speaking after the result was declared, John Hemming said: "I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me on May 6th, it's an honour and a privilege to serve you in this way. I look forward to hearing from you, and finding out what I can do for you."
Local council elections were also held on Thursday 6 May and eight Liberal Democrat councillors were elected to Birmingham City Council.
Paul Tilsley, Leader of the Lib Dem Council Group, thanked all those who supported the Liberal Democrats and said:
"Your support in this year's election will help us to achieve our six key policy objectives for you and your family. The six to fix Liberal Democrat priorities include a cleaner and greener city, boosting Brum's bobbies, beating the current recession, providing new social homes and better transport for all and developing better access to higher education and training."
The Lib Dem Council Group is joined by David Willis, who succeeded Jim Whorwood in the South Yardley Ward. Sadly, Zaker Choudhry was not re-elected in the Bordesley Green Ward.
