Liberal Democrats supplant Tories as the real opposition, Independent on Sunday poll shows3.29.50pm GMT Mon 29th Nov 2004 A poll in yesterday's Independent on Sunday has shown most people believe it is the Liberal Democrats and not the conservatives that are the real opposition. When asked if 'Charles Kennedy and the Liberal Democrats are a more effective opposition than Mr. Howard and the Tories' 44% agree and 41% disagree. Amongst non-Conservative voters 53% agree that the Liberal Democrats are a more effective opposition. The poll was carried out by Communicate Research on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Communicate Research interviews a random sample of 1,033 adults, the results have been weighted to be representative of all adults.
