Some welcome news for Birmingham City
Liberal Democrat Councillors Roger Harmer, Shabina Bano and Baber Baz attended the opening of the BCFC Foundation and community centre yesterday.
The new facility is the product of 4 years of dedication, inspired by the wish to enhance the local community.
The new facility which has been built next to the ground is bright, large and airy, with several multi-purpose spaces. The intention now is to offer mother and baby drop in sessions, youth clubs, SEND activities and a space to hire for private functions.
The local charity “Let’s feed Brum” are planning to offer hot meals and company from the venue, with a special focus on families who are in temporary accommodation; the facility will give families a chance to eat a hot meal together, whilst giving the family space to play and talk.
The charity “Street games” will also use the hub as a base to provide opportunities in sport for young people.
Cllr Shabina Bano said “This community centre is fantastic for the local community the offer of events and activities will make a positive impact for people, especially young people and families.”
Cllr Roger Harmer added “I represent Acocks Green, and I would love to have a facility like this in my local community. Fortunately, the Birmingham City Foundation has huge ambition to expand their work throughout the city so I look forward to the benefits reaching the edges of the city and beyond. I wish them every success with this as they develop their plans.
Birmingham City Foundation’s ambitions stand in stark contrast to the cuts to youth provision announced at Birmingham City Council this week. At a time when poverty and homelessness is increasing, the BCFC Foundation provides a welcome oasis.”
