Birmingham City Council: Deborah Cadman resigns
We have learned today that Deborah Cadman is to step down as Chief Executive of Birmingham City Council as of 22 March 2024 after just short of three years' service.
Commenting on this, Group Leader Roger Harmer said:
“The revolving door of the Chief Executive’s office swings round once again. Prior to Deborah’s appointment, Birmingham City Council suffered several changes of leadership.
“In that context, three years’ service is an achievement, and yet it also demonstrates the huge problem at Birmingham City Council. The leadership team do not stay long enough to see the job through, and we lose valuable corporate memory with every change.
“Birmingham is crying out for stability. This council needs people who stay long enough to deliver.
“Whilst Deborah notes that she always planned to leave after the budget was set, the job of resetting the council is only just beginning, and we now need a new chief executive who can see it through.
“Deborah clearly cares passionately for the city. She is a Brummie born and bred and has dedicated her career to public service. I wish her all the best in her future career.”
