Sir Ed Davey added “our economy won’t grow strong again unless we repair our broken relationship with Europe”

Cllr Izzy Knowles, who has established a reputation for being a key spokesperson on Europe in Birmingham added “Britain is a nation of small businesses, already hit by barriers to trade with Europe and now hit with further tax rises.”

“On a macro level in the West Midlands, we have seen stagnation instead of growth for many years. Now, this can be put down to Covid, and to the war in Ukraine, however the devastating impact of leaving the world’s biggest single market cannot be underestimated.”

“The Midlands Engine reported on this in 2022, explaining that trade and the labour market have been adversely affected by Brexit.”

“We need a route back into Europe. We need to repair diplomatic links and return freedom of movement, especially for young people.”
