Statement from Cllr Morriam Jan
In the past few weeks, I have been bowled over by the amount of people that wanted to support me to be the Parliamentary Candidate for Perry Barr.
It’s been truly heartwarming to have messages of support from residents and colleagues, and people that I’ve worked with over the many years.
After receiving such a lot of support, I was keen to stand, and I put myself in for assessment.
As you would expect, our party’s assessment of prospective parliamentary candidates is very thorough. There are also several stages to pass which take time, both for the candidate, and for the candidate’s office who manage the assessment process.
I began my assessment this spring with the hope of completing in summer. Alas, because of the General Election announcement, I was unable to complete on time.
I’m delighted to say however that we have got a fantastic candidate in place, Sabah Hamed, who I pledge my full support to. She’s a brilliant candidate and I encourage you all to vote for her.
After the election, I will continue to prepare for my assessment, and I look forward to standing in the next General Election. In fact…just try and stop me!
For now, I’m delighted to have been re-confirmed as the Deputy Leader for the Birmingham Lib Dem group, and I continue to be proud to be the elected councillor for Perry Barr.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Morriam.
