Meet John Sweeney

War reporter John Sweeney has switched his flak jacket and helmet for a yellow rosette. He’s standing in Sutton Coldfield and hoping to give sitting Tory MP Andrew Mitchell a good thrashing.

Standing as the antidote to Conservativism, John also gives light relief from Birmingham Labour austerity, which has seen council tax bills hiked up by 10% this year. Services are being slashed to statutory minimum.

On the doorsteps, people are telling John how they feel about the dreadful state of the town centre. The once beating heart of the constituency looks drab and depressed. People also tell him about problems with dangerous driving, particularly around the east of the constituency where car cruising can be an issue, and the state of public healthcare is something that affects every family too.

John has also got some exciting ideas, such as rewilding Sutton Park with red deer, which would have once roamed happily there. He wants Sutton Coldfield town centre to be redesigned and redeveloped with local people in mind.

John is ready to fight like a Bengal tiger for Sutton Coldfield.  He just needs your vote.

His key priorities are:
1. A fair, prosperous and innovative economy that promotes opportunity and wellbeing.

2. Fair access to good public services and a strong social safety net.

3. A flourishing environment, with fair access to nature for all.

4. A strong United Kingdom and a fair international order.

5. A truly fair democracy, where everyone’s rights are respected and individuals and communities are empowered.
